Here is another, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2012\/09\/12\/from-the-ruins-of-empire-by-pankaj-mishra-review.html\">The Daily Beast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/039333032X\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=039333032X&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=petersacom-20\"><strong>Six Frigates: The Epic History of the Founding of the US Navy<\/strong><\/a>, by Ian Toll. A lively, entertaining popular history, covering (a) the early debates over whether the US should have a navy, and if so, what form it should take; and (b) the naval actions of the period, during the Quasi-War against France, the First Barbary War, and the War of 1812.
